Here are some things Lilly has been up to with her Daddy.
Earthquakes
We went to DL and stayed along the lake at a hotel. We had a walk-out room and enjoyed the sunset. Lilly even got to go in the lake for the first time and sat in a floatie while I pushed her around. (I hope she grows up to like floating on the lake. That's one of my favorite past-times but I haven't had much of an opportunity lately.) I think Lilly's highlight of the trip was the "earthquake." The "earthquake" consists of Lilly laying on the bed and Al bouncing the bed around her and announcing what number on the Richter scale the shaking got up to. She was all smiles and a big fan of the bouncing.
Reading
I was telling Al that we should try to read Lilly some books (I've not been doing this very often lately. The teacher in me feels bad but she shows absolutely no interest yet, but I still think we should anyway). He picks up the parade magazine and announces that reading this will make her "dumber." He then uses his baby voice and reads/talks to her about Lance Armstrong's children and tells her what Michael Bolton has been up to these days. "He's the guy that plays the saxophone." Close, he was thinking of Kenny G. Earlier Al was explaining to Lilly (as he was warming up a bottle) that the lawn is yellow because it needs more nitrogen. The lawn needs to eat fertilizer, just like you need to drink milk.
Horsey Rides
Lilly loves bouncing on Daddy's knee. She giggles and squeals as he bounces and sings. Her favorite song is now "The old gray mare, she aint what she used to be..."
What are you thinking, Daddy?
He told me once a couple months ago that he heard from people at work that cereal in a bottle helps babies sleep better (not that he actually is up with her at night or anything, but I guess he was trying to help). He thought that "cereal" was crushed up breakfast cereal put into a bottle. Now he jokes that he's going to crush up Cookie Crisp and put it in the bottle for her. Well, I guess since she already has had ice cream (see earlier post), we may as well try Cookie Crisp.
So here we are at the lake. Al brought some beer along and I brought my individual serving size wine bottles (as to not waste wine as I have my allotted one drink). We were wishing we had a small cooler to take to the beach. I remembered the breast milk cooler that came with my new pump and thought it couldn't hurt to put the drinks in there. After all, they were all sealed up and weren't going to hurt anything. The next morning as I was in the shower, I began to wonder where all put his empty cans. I had been careful and put my wine back into the beach bag with a tightly sealed cap just to be on the safe side. "There's no way he would put his empties back into the breast milk cooler." Or so I thought... I opened the cooler to find three empty cans of Guinness. The cans were empty because the last few swallows of each can filled the bottom of the cooler. Al proclaimed it was my idea to use it for beer anyway so it wasn't so bad that he put his empties in the cooler. Sorry, Lilly, I promise I will clean it out really well before I put any of your bottles in there.
In spite of the few "what were you thinking" moments I've had, Lilly is very lucky to have such a great dad. It makes me think of when Lilly was just born and Al held her as I slept of the drugs from my c-section. I was glad that at least since I couldn't hold her right after she was born (which still makes me sad), that at least Al could. He told me about when she nuzzled under his chin and went to sleep right hours after she was born. I won't tell Lilly, but I think she has had Daddy wrapped around her very little finger from that moment on.
