Lilly is officially one. Family, friends, & kids came over to have grilled hamburgers/hot dogs, cakeand the kids decorated cupcakes. Lilly didn't eat much of her cupcake but put her finger in the frosting a few times. The cake is actually a layered brownie cake with ganache for frosting with fondant cut out decorations. I was pretty impressed with how it turned out. Then again, with so much butter, chocolate, and cream, how could I go wrong? Lilly is getting to be a pro at walking along the furniture and can stand for a few seconds on her own. We've had to put up the board books because she continues to eat them. Grandma Janet came to visit a few times in the last several weeks and taught Lilly how to say "hello." She loves to wave. Lilly seems to really like daycare and cries/shakes her head "no" when Al goes to pick her up. Her face lights up when she sees other kids. She loves it when the six year old neighbor girl comes over to play.
Today I am off of school due to the flood/blizzard. It seems odd that both could happen at the same time. In a few days it seems as though we will have a flood with the highest crest on record(40-41 feet). The national guard is helping, colleges are closed, police are escorting sandbag-filled trucks through town, and volunteers have made hundreds of thousands of sand bags. A mile (or so) long dirt dike was built just south of my school on the other side of town. From what I hear on the news, the national guard is building a dike on top of the permanent dike on the golf course in my neighborhood. Even if all the dikes broke, our house is several feet above the crest so we should be OK. The drain plugs Al bought for the basement don't seem to fit so I think we (meaning Al) are planning to get a nerf football to plug the toilet and bolt it down with rubber. Sewer back-up would be no fun so hopefully this will work...........but this is a minor problem compared to many people who have lost or are in danger of losing their homes.
